Florists hold line on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is the busiest two days of the year
for some florists, and this year is no different.
“The nature of the business has changed a lot, but
Valentine’s Day steps out of the larger trend,” said James Reynolds,
owner of Reynolds Flower Shop on Plymouth Street in Middleboro.
Even though the floral business has been affected by
the economy, rising product prices, the growth of Internet flower
shops and this year, especially, the weather, Valentine’s Day is one
of the few days that florists don’t feel the effects.
Across the board, prices seem to be steady compared
to past years. The price for a dozen long-stem roses at Bridgewater
Florist, located in Central Square in Bridgewater, is $59.99, which
includes a free vase, and that hasn’t changed in three years.
At Reynolds Flower Shop, a dozen long-stem roses go
for $60 in a box, $70 in a vase – consistent with the past few
years...
