Local sites include the 80 foot Cascade Falls, the Ascutney State Park Trails, VAST snowmobile network, a gorgeous Alpaca Farm in Brownsville, golfing at Crown Point Country Club, horseback riding at the Green Mountain Horse Association in South Woodstock, trout fishing in the Black River (the north branch of which can be heard babbling behind our house), horse-drawn sleigh rides, hot-air ballooning in Quechee, great restaurants everywhere, Harpoon & Longtrail Brewery tours, and of course, SKIING!

For something smaller, SUICIDE SIX is a nice family resort (20 minutes)

During your stay, be sure to visit nearby Woodstock - HGTV's #8 on it's TOP TEN CHRISTMAS TOWNS IN AMERICA

SKIERNEWS.COM says: "With its new, mile-long high-speed detachable North Peak Express quad to a new summit area, 95 percent snowmaking coverage and 56 trails, ASCUTNEY is truly Vermont’s 'Mountain on the Rise.'"

"Vermont is a state I love.  I could not look upon the peaks of Ascutney, Killington, Mansfield, and Equinox, without being moved in a way that no other scene could move me.  It was here that I first saw the light of day; here I received my bride, here my dead lie pillowed on the loving breast of our eternal hills...President Calvin Coolidge, 1928.
